SINCE 1896

Since 1896, Tidstrands Yllefabriker has created beautifully patterned blankets that combine traditional craftsmanship with modern design. The company was founded in Dalarna by the young entrepreneur Axel Ludvig Tidstrand who, during a train journey, passed the small town of Sågmyra and fell head over heels for its pearly waterfalls. There he wanted to build the textile factory of his dreams. And so it was. With its 1,000 employees, Tidstrands Yllefabriker would prove to be one of Europe's leading players in textiles. And in time also a supplier to the Royal Court.

The factory was undeniably a significant employer in the region, but it also put Sågmyra on the map. Axel Ludvig Tidstrand became the “Sågmyra King” with the entire Swedish people.

But now it's time. For the beloved blankets in 100 percent merino wool to get a new life. The owner, founder and Insjön-born Helena Tidstrand, colleague Malin Muhr and Helena's daughter Ellen Berntson are breathing life into the textile factory and its proud heritage. Italian Tuscany is the new home of production and the patterns are the same now as then, designed by renowned textile artists such as Viola Gråsten, Sigvard Bernadotte and Lena Rewell. What a treasure trove of patterns!

Each blanket is woven with care and love, enveloping you not only with warmth but also with true craft history.

In Sågmyra Hembygdsmuséum you can find out everything about what it was like during Sågmyra's heyday when the large wool factory was in operation with about 1000 employees.
